While Valentine’s Day isn’t as big a celebration in Australia as it is in the Unites States, February 14 is still seen by many as a great excuse for doing something special with – or for – a loved one.
Northpoint Apartments provides the perfect Port Macquarie accommodation choice for a romantic getaway, and there are plenty of things to do in the area, for those looking to make the occasion a special one.
St Valentine’s Day was originally a Christian feast day, held in honour of Saint Valentinus (of whom there were apparently three). In one story about St Valentine of Rome, it is said that the saint was imprisoned for performing illegal marriage ceremonies for soldiers, and for ministering to persecuted Christians. While in jail, Saint Valentine supposedly healed the daughter of one of the jailers and, before he was executed, wrote a farewell letter to her, signed “Your Valentine”.
It is also said that St Valentine’s Day was a Christianised version of a fertility festival held in Rome. During the pagan festival, the city’s single women would place their names in an urn, with the single men each drawing out a name and being paired with the woman whose name they had chosen. Apparently, these matches often led to marriage.
Whether you’re celebrating a new relationship, or enjoying the longevity of a relationship that has stood the test of time, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate in the Port Macquarie region. Fine dining, walks on the beach, wine tasting, and quiet walks are all on your doorstep when you stay at Northpoint Apartments.
